Shamus was your everyday student enjoying everything that University had to offer; right up until he suffered a traumatic experience from a pill on a night out. The drug proved to be a trigger that saw his mental health unravel over the next year: what he refers to as ‘the year long come-down’. A single panic attack developed into something much more serious. Shamus talks us through his recovery and the life-changing impact of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). Shamus opens up on the podcast about who and what saved his life and how exercise and meditation played a huge role in his recovery. He also takes us through what it was like telling his parents, the advice he would give to those going through something similar and why it might have been the wake-up call he needed in order to prioritise his mental health. *We do not encourage or discourage the use of any drug, you should always consult a doctor.
