Having recently taken part in the Cornwall County Athletics Championship and reading Richard Asquith's book 'Race against Time' I was keen to find out more about Masters Athletics.
And what better person to share what it's like to be involved than my friend Christine Anthony who recently took part in the World Indoor Masters Athletic Championships in Torun in Poland.
Christine took part in the 400m, the 800m, the 1500m and the 4 x 200m mixed relay.
If you are 35+ you are a Masters athlete so I'm hoping this episode will inspire some of you who focus on long-distance running to think about occasionally having a great day out and taking part in a Masters track and field athletics event.
Christine will tell us about her experience including the difference between running indoor and outdoor, tactics when running on a 200 meter track and the importance as you get older of cross training as well as strength and conditioning work.
Although I am building up to the ARC 50 in January 2024 I had a great time at the Cornwall Athletics Championships winning in the O40s Vets in both the triple jump and javelin, events until a week before the competition I had not taken part in for 40 years, not that I was doing competitions back then but they were part of the degree curriculum I was following.
