What You Need To Know To Get Your Affairs In Order | Estate Planning Over 50 With Attorney Nicole Willet-Jones
Manage episode 329687196 series 3354985
Today I am sitting down with estate attorney Nicole Willet-Jones who is sharing such important information about getting our estate affairs in order to give us piece of mind in this area.
The things we talk about today:
1. Things to think about going into estate planning -
a. What is your goal? Who are you taking care of?
b. How do you own things? Joint or Individual
c. Getting organized
d. Personal items distribution
2. This is good time to look at other financial planning and getting your beneficiaries on other retirement, life insurance policies updated or making sure they are correct.
3. Getting your Living Will in place. This is your healthcare surrogate. This is also important for your children over 18 and especially for single people.
4. Getting your Power of Attorney in place. This will give your choice of person the authority to take care of financial and legal matters. Also important for our children over 18 to put into place.
5. An executor is similar to a POA, but we must pick someone who has the capacity to be able to handle our affairs as it is a time consuming job.
6. Time to do an inventory of all of your accounts, user names and passwords in order for your executor to be able to easily access your information on when things are due, how you pay for them, and ability to cancel subscriptions.
7. Every 5 years is the best time to update your documents and why.
8. How to talk to your parents if they haven't gotten their affairs in order.
9. Getting your estate affairs in order isn't necessarily expensive, look at it as an investment.
10. Look for an estate attorney who works on a FLAT FEE.
11. Getting your estate affairs in order is an empowering process. You want to make sure that YOU are making all of your decisions and now is the best time to take that power back.
Nicole can be reached at her website: https://willetlaw.com. All of her contact information is where on how to reach her and if you are looking for more information about her, her practice, or are doing research to find an estate attorney in your area.
