Laura Eid is a Psychological Counsellor at Private Therapy Clinic, she speaks with Dr. Becky Spelman about her experience during the Beirut explosion in August 2020.
Laura has grown up and spent her childhood in Lebanon, Beirut. Although she currently lives in London and is due to start her Doctorate training in Clinical Psychology in London she still often visits Beirut to visit her family and friends.
Laura explains she felt the first explosion but she thought it was an earthquake, and then it passed, but then the second explosion happened which had more of a detrimental impact. Laura explained the glass windows shattered over her as she was sat on her sofa, and she started to question 'am I alive right now?', Laura said she froze at the time and was screaming and crying but dissociated from the events at the time. Laura explained the event like a 'war zone'.
Laura encourages her friends and family to talk about the traumatic event, due to Laura's Psychological understanding and background she understood the importance of opening up about the event and making sense of what happened. Laura also touches on the financial impact this has had to the people of Lebanon, and the county as a whole.
