In this episode of the Empower You podcast, host Michael Abney welcomes former FBI agent Erin Mann. Erin shares her journey from a childhood in a law enforcement family, where both her parents were FBI agents, to becoming an agent herself. From a young age, Erin always knew she wanted to work for the FBI, an aspiration that guided her lifestyle and educational choices.
She shares her experiences in the Bureau working on counterintelligence and counterterrorism, and how her outgoing personality surprisingly served her well in her job. However, Erin's life took a turn when she moved to Washington, D.C. for a transfer and met her husband, Craig. She recounts their amusing initial encounter through an online dating platform and how Craig was a refreshing change from the stereotypical men she met within government work. Despite her initial career-oriented mindset and not wanting children, Erin started a family after marrying Craig.
This decision was cemented when she almost lost her life due to an ectopic pregnancy, leading to the birth of their son, Lucas, whom they consider their miracle baby after suffering several miscarriages. At this point, Erin decided to leave the FBI and dedicate her time to her family. Throughout the episode, Erin's story is marked by her dedication to her job, her unexpected journey to motherhood, and her adaptability and resilience when her life doesn't go as planned.
