In this episode, I'm chatting with Melissa Corkum. As a post-adoption support specialist, co-founder of The Adoption Connection, Safe and Sound Protocol Practitioner, and adoptee, Melissa Corkum has helped hundreds of adoptive parents shift to a brain-based view of behaviors so they can laugh more and yell less. When she’s not working with parents, she loves helping other adoptees process their stories using the Enneagram. She and her husband, Patrick, have six kids by birth and adoption. They've taught her a lot about what creates thriving parent-child relationships…and what doesn't.
In this episode you'll learn:

  • The roots of the Safe & Sound Protocol, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges
  • How we’re all wired for different confirmation biases that impact our outlook on the world and how the Safe & Sound Protocol can help rewire that
  • The role of stress hormones before we’re born and how epigenetics can explain intergenerational trauma
  • What the Safe & Sound Protocol can do to help retone your ear and create neuroplasticity in the brain
  • What to expect working with a Safe & Sound Protocol practitioner

A radical mother is a woman poised in her power ready to disrupt cycles of generational trauma running through her family like wildfire. She's working to improve her life, the lives of her children, and shape the landscape of her community. If that's you - you're in the right place.
This podcast is designed to connect you with resources, inspiration, and the reminder that you are not alone as you embark on your journey of radical mothering.
I’m your host Christa Bevan and I’m a nervous system educator for cycle breaker moms as well as a certified TRE (trauma releasing exercises) provider, and a trauma-informed yoga instructor. And of course, a fellow Radical Mother. My approach to this work blends neuroscience backed tools and heart-centered intuition.
