Joining from Ventura, CA is Maggie Hernandez, a T.O.C. contracted therapist, who is half way through the process of becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California.
Maggie is married to Erik, who has been a Fire Fighter for the City of Pasadena for 10 years and a mother of two. Maggie and Erik are both on the Board of Directors for a Non-Profit Organization called 809 Fight For Awareness.
Being a T.O.C. contracted therapist, Maggie breaks down the smooth and confidential process to get our first responders into therapy through T.O.C. In addition, we talked about the importance of competency, confidentiality, and seeing your own therapist even as a therapist!
Maggie discussed some of the challenges of being married to a Fire Fighter, especially during the holiday season and with two children. From FaceTiming Erik while at work and missing an event to celebrating holidays on random days during the week, Maggie elaborated on how her family adapted to the challenging lifestyle. Maggie also gave some insight on what our first responder community needs to implement for our spouses and significant others.
Standby for Part II with Maggie as we break down PTSD, the challenge of attending therapy through insurance, and EAP Programs.
You can find Maggie on Instagram at Mindmatterswithmaggie and 809 Fight For Awareness at 809fight4awareness.
Hope you all enjoy!
