This episode of the Odyssey sees Odysseus and his crew arrive at the island of Helios, home to the sun god's sacred cattle. Warned not to harm them, the hungry crew succumbs to temptation and feasts on the cattle, angering the gods. As punishment, Zeus destroys their ship and all perish except Odysseus, who washes up on the island of the Phaeacians. Their kind king and queen welcome him and urge Odysseus to share his story. Moved by his trials, the Phaeacians gift him a ship to finally return home to Ithaca.
