(…) erzählt Barbara Kracht von der erste Präsentation 1972. Als Tochter des Mitgründers Felix Kracht erlebt sie - zuerst als Studentin und später als Pressechefin - jeden Schritt auf der sehr harten Erfolgleiter des damaligen Startup-Unternehmens Airbus Industrie. Wir sprechen mit der Mitarbeiterin No. 007, auch genannt Madame AIRBUS.

Es war ein kühner Plan, die Dominanz der Amerikaner bei den Großraumflugzeugen zu brechen. Aber er gelang. Anfangs noch belächelt und ignoriert, überließ man vier A300 einer Fluglinie - ohne Berechnung, um der Welt zu beweisen, dass die Europäer auch große und zuverlässige Flugzeuge bauen konnten.

Wer hätte gedacht, dass der kommerzielle Erfolg von Airbus auf den Schultern eines ehemaligen - amerikanischen Astronauten - ruht.

It was a bold plan to break the Americans' dominance in wide-body aircraft. But it succeeded. Initially ridiculed and ignored, four A300s were given to an airline free of charge to prove to the world that Europeans could also build large and reliable aircraft.
