Sara just completed her re-upping of her Wilderness First Responder Certification last week. She has always felt it a gift to be able to have this certification and to help someone in distress. And as she began to think about the times she or others have actively participated in helping someone, she also began to think of those she’s witnessed that stand on the sideline and don’t step up.

Are they too afraid to step up? Afraid to be the lead? There was a tv show years ago called “What Would You Do?”. Sara asks would you lead with kindness and jump in or would you walk away?

She questions the premise that it’s best to “Mind your own Business” vs “Reach out and Help”. She asks us to question at what point is it NOT ok to mind our own business?

In this episode Sara asks us to give this thought. Think also about if you were in need of help, what would you want someone else to do? Sara remembers in 1984 when a tornado wiped out her town. The biggest impact was how the community all pitched in and helped those that were in distress or just needed extra help. That impact on how she wanted to be in this world was greater than the tornado’s destruction.

Sara reminds us that you can influence a person’s life if you help them and they may do the same later for someone else.

Let’s remember to always help others and even when afraid, jump in anyway and be the person not just watching from the side. It’s just the way we need to be: Helping and caring. We are all connected.
