This is such a great place to start looking at Jesus. You find out a lot about Him as He relates to the disciples during their failures and sins!
During this episode we look at the disciples competing with one another in selfish ambition which Paul calls out as blatant sin (Philippians 2:3-4). In fact, I have been counting the disciples failures and sins and I am up to 31 individual events.
Jesus is amazing in each event as He relates to the disciples. It is surprising how good He is.
In this event, Jesus doesn't reject the disciples or shame them for their sins of pride. Far from it. He knows we are all less than perfect. He calmly instruct the disciples essentially saying that He wants them to be great, but it is very important how they go about it. He patiently explains to them that it is by serving and caring about people that we become truly great, not by competing and controlling.
He turns hierarchy and leadership structures up on their heads and points to the path of humility, authenticity and service.... which is His own path. He call them not to a "leadership principle" but to follow Him.
And remember our foundation verse, where Jesus says, "If you have seen Me [Jesus], you have seen the Father [God]." John 14:9
Shockingly, Jesus says that God is exactly like Him!
Wow, what is a refreshing picture of image of God compared to the worlds twisted and jaded picture of God!
Enjoy!
