With how prevalent social media has become, there is a rising need for companies to establish policies to provide clarity around what is acceptable and prevent potential issues that may arise as social media continues to become a bigger part of our business. In this episode, Brian shares ways that entrepreneurs and management teams can manage social media expectations, create policies that reflect a fair and balanced approach, and have a policy in place to fall back on should an employee misuse social media and cause potential harm to the business.
The steps Brian shares to manage social media misconduct in your business are:
- Setting the ground rules and reviewing existing policies to identify any specific updates that are required.
- Draft and implement your policy clearly outlining your expectations, acceptable usage, privacy considerations, and consequences for non-compliance.
- Conduct training to educate your employees on the policy details and follow through with enforcing the policy.
- Reasonably and ethically open a well-documented investigation into any misconduct (& the steps you need to take to do so).
