On this week’s episode of Die Sober, Darren and Zach want to change the public’s view of rock bottom, and when recovery can take place. “They need to hit rock bottom before they seek help”, is a false common trope amongst recovery specialists. However, Darren and Zach contend that letting someone slip to rock bottom is gambling with human life and the time to action towards recovery can occur anytime as long as they're still breathing. The two of them talk about how important it is to be proactive in addiction recovery, and they use their personal and professional experience to discuss the power of family involvement and tough conversations in order for effective recovery.

About Darren Hobbs, Founder: As a board-certified interventionist, Darren brings both passion and experience to each client’s family. His work in behavioral health began with his own personal journey to recovery in 2010. Inspired by his own family’s experience, Darren focused his efforts on helping other families in crisis. His understanding of both the addicted mind and the intricacies of family dynamics have helped him facilitate countless successful interventions around the country. As the owner and founder of The Firm Addiction Consulting, Darren is a leading provider of intervention and long-term family support services in the Southeast and has unmatched success in young men’s intervention.

As a ten-year industry veteran and Certified Intervention Professional, Darren’s passion for providing high-quality, individualized care to those struggling with addiction extends beyond the intervention experience and has prompted him to help found and operate multiple programs: In 2017, NRhythm Recovery Residences opened to provide an accountability rich sober living option in Nashville. In 2018, in response to the need for a continuum of care designed to blend community engagement and evidenced-based clinical support for individuals leaving residential treatment, Nashville Recovery Center opened as a PHP/IOP program with a unique community space for hosting recovery meetings, sober events, concerts, etc. In 2020, Nashville Detox opened to extend treatment services to those needing medical detox and psychological assessment prior to receiving residential substance abuse treatment.

About Zach Livingston:

For the first decade of his professional life, Zach traveled throughout the country fighting wildfires. While he thrived on the adrenaline of handling life-threatening situations, he also developed a severe addiction that ultimately led to multiple incarcerations and trips to treatment. After finding sobriety in 2017, Zach felt called to translate his ability to calmly navigate intense, chaotic environments and his personal experience with the devastation of addiction into a way to bring hope and healing. From the first call to aftercare planning with clients, Zach makes it clear that he will not negotiate with the disease of addiction and his willingness to show up and walk shoulder to shoulder with the family in their most difficult moments earns him the opportunity to be direct in times of crisis. Zach is a board-certified interventionist and holds an industry standard CCMI for intervention competence. He has orchestrated countless successful interventions and has joined as a second seat on many more.

Zach’s approach to intervention is the Johnson Model as trained by Darren Hobbs after joining his team in 2020. Prior to becoming a full-time interventionist, Zach counseled young men in an inpatient treatment setting. His calm demeanor and down-home delivery help him build strong trusting relationships with his clients and their families.
