Join Emma as she speaks to Dental Researcher Dr Sarah Hancock about the link between metabolic health and dental caries.
I find it absolutely fascinating that my dental health before I found low carb eating was directly related to the health of my immune system and inflammation in my system. Teeth need to be nourished from the inside too!!
Is brushing our teeth the only thing that impacts dental health?
In this episode we discuss:

  • Real food vs processed food.
  • The effect of inflammation and tooth health
  • Why we believe that brushing teeth is all it takes to maintain good oral hygiene.
  • How this set of beliefs came to be
  • How ph content of our food affects our dental caries (cavities)
  • The phenomenal cost of dental care to our societies

Here are some of the links to research articles https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33156952/ (a systematic review on starch-sugar foods and dental caries burdens)https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32027640/ (a commentary piece on the disconnects between the evidence on dietary associations and caries and obesity, and dietary guideline recommendations for children and young people)https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35889941/ (formative study assessing the nutrition knowledge of foods for oral health in children and adults)
