The promise of a post-pandemic reset has been underwhelming for many people juggling work and home life. As long as expectations at the office haven't changed, overwork is here to stay. So what can you do to take back some control of your work-life balance? And what is the real cost of not dealing with stress properly?
Dr Karen Morley is an executive leadership psychologist and coach, whose vision is to help leaders get more impact with less effort. She has held executive roles in government and higher education, and is a thought leader on gender and inclusion. Her new book FlexAbility: How high achievers beat burnout and find freedom in an overworked world is written for a post-pandemic flexible working wold.
Quotes from this episode:
"
I think, in a technical sense, not everybody is necessarily feeling burned out... feeling somewhat cynical about your work and feeling that you're not effective. But I do think that many people are feeling exhausted and that's more than enough to be concerned".
"There's very clear findings from the World Health Organization around the impact of chronic stress and overwork, and burnout at work. And that is you're more likely to die."
"We don't have an issue with resilience. We have an issue with recharging. We have an issue with how we manage our energy and our expectations."
