Carolyne Jasinski knows a thing or two about camper vans, but she had to solve a problem on her last trip. Just how does a height-challenged hirer reach a bed that drops down from the ceiling? Photo: Our reporter's office and accommodation in a Queensland canefield

17:54Veteran travel editor, Mijke Smith is not trying to save money when he opts for a road trip instead of a flight from Sydney to Gold Coast. And he doesn’t drive through the night to get there either. Mike prefers the leisurely pace of stopping for one or two nights about halfway there and again about hallway home. A cabin in a caravan park has all the creature comforts he needs and often a view to die for. So if you listen to Mike’s chat with Graeme Kemlo, there’s some great tips from a road warrior that just might suit your vacation needs too. 21:30Helen Hayes has been away during our simmer break here on Travel Writers Radio. She visited Switzerland home to some of the world’s most iconic mountain-scapes. While there she interviewed Alan Ramsey who used to work in Paris but went towork Switzerland for one ski season…that was 34 years ago, he;s still there, and the rest, as they say is history. Helen gets a preview of an exciting three-part technology upgrade to the ski transportation facilities that include an 85 passenger gondola and a few years away is a 100 passenger gondola. All sited with the magnificent backdrop of three iconic mountains that have featured in moves such as James Bond's On Her Magesty's Secret Service., Photo Helen Hayes and Alan Ramsey in the Swiss Alpas. 18:20Our reporter Carolyne Jasinski recently spent a few days in Tasmania learning the fine art of fly fishing with expert guide Matt Stone. In her own words – she’s hooked on it now, but that was only after a lot of laughs, trying not to get bogged in her waders, having to go back and re-learn the basics and lots of practice casts. She reckons it is the ultimate girls’ weekend because it doesn’t matter whether you catch a fish or not. Photo: Carolyne Jasinski and Matt Stone in Tasmania's Central Highlands…

15:47We put out a call late last year for journalists, broadcasters, in fact storytellers who had travel-related stories to tell asking them to get in touch if they would like to be featured on Travel Writers Radio. Who would have thought that we would get a note from someone who had their own television show on WIN, largest one of Australia’s regional TV networks. But Scotty McRae wrote asking if he could share his stories. So we got him ion the line and first of all Graeme Kemlo wanmted to know “What is the Scotty McRae story? It was very well received by our audience and while it did include some of the shows being staged in Sydney, that was not the full list – tonight we present the unabridged Sydney music theatre scene, the names of the theatres and the dates they will play. 22:03Karin Avila knows the speed of a New York minute – she lived and worked in the Big Apple before moving to Spain two years ago where it is commonly said – “A Spaniard never looks at his watch”. The Spanish approach to time, to punctuality, to the siesta and to meal time, being about two hours later than we expect - has ramifications for the unwary traveller. So Graeme Kemlo asked Karin if it was true that she had to adjust from one extreme approach to time to the opposite in her newly adopted home in rural Valencia Spain.…

10:51Helen Hayes has been a regular visitor to Canada particularly during their winter, but recently she travelled across the country from west to east, ending up in Quebec, the predominantly French speaking province. It is an accident of history we gather, but we’re wondering just how French is this enclave on the North American continent. Does it extend beyond the language to the architecture, the food, the wine and the attitude.…
