Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome is a term coined by internationally renowned researcher and educator Dr. Joy Degruy, describing the intergenerational psychological trauma endured by families which experienced slavery in the United States. and the continued discrimination and oppression endured by Black Americans.

In this very first episode of our podcast, we're starting with Ring 1 of To Heal A People's 4 Ring System of Healing- and that's all about healing our Self. We dive into Dr. Joy's work, and take you on a journey through the eyes and stories of individuals living through Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (PTSS).

This episode talks about: intergenerational trauma, black maternal health, black mental health, mental health in the black community, post traumatic slave syndrome, intergenerational healing.

About Dr. Joy Degruy:

Joy DeGruy is an author, academic, and public speaker who previously served as assistant professor at the Portland State University School of Social Work. She is current president and CEO of DeGruy Publications, Inc. She is most known for her book Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.
