Getting to know God with the Rev Bill Crews
Manage episode 312109613 series 3207280
One of the most pleasurable hours of my life spent chatting with this remarkable man. Bill Crews has spent the entirety of his adult life helping the people who need it the most. Abandoning a promising career as an electrical engineer as a young man, Bill received a calling from God whilst attending the wayside chapel in Kings Cross in the late 1960's. Wayside Chapel has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Kings Cross since 1964. Bill tells his story of how he felt compelled to help those in need. A very humble man but what he has done for others is nothing short of extraordinary. In 1983 he left the Wayside Chapel to study Theology at the Uniting Church’s United Theological College and graduated in 1986, and in that same year, he was ordained as minister of the Ashfield Uniting Church in Sydney’s inner-west. At Ashfield he created The Exodus Foundation to assist homeless and abandoned youth, and other people in need.Today, The Exodus Foundation is one of Sydney’s largest frontline charities. The Exodus Foundation runs the Loaves & Fishes Free Restaurant, serving 800 meals to the needy every day and operates a multipurpose Health & Outreach Centre, which provides help and support services such as social workers, chaplaincy, counselling, and food parcel assistance and primary healthcare.
