Episode #025: Iceland's Dr. Football Hjörvar Hafliðason joins us to discuss Icelandic football ahead of Juan Camilo Perez's move to 2021 Runners-Up Breidablik. A former player himself - including a brief stint with Stoke - Hjörvar pulled no punches with his comedic assessments and discussion around Venezuelan and Icelandic football, respectively and comparatively!
Hjörvar discusses:
- Why arriving to Iceland in January is no easy feat
- The national team's recent successes on the national stage
- And whether the country has too many football teams
So far, two Venezuelans have joined Icelandic clubs for the 2022 season. Following Juan Camilo Perez to the Scandinavian country is 23-year-old left back Jesus Yendis. After a fantastic season at Hermanos Colmenarez, Yendis has penned a two-year deal with newly promoted Fram. Fram are no strangers to the top flight, with 18 league titles and 40 games on the continental stages of the Champions League and Europa League back when it was the European Cup and UEFA Cup.
