On this episode, host Justin Hong interviews former world champion baton twirler Monica Lee. During her illustrious career, Monica competed for years on national and international stages and became a world champion baton twirler.
In this episode, Monica talks about her childhood and how she got started with baton twirling (2:10) and educates us about baton twirling as a sport, including what baton twirlers do during competitions, the athletic skills that baton twirlers utilize, how baton twirling performances are scored, the different types of baton twirling events, and where the sport is most popular (7:25).
She also talks about the incredible support she received from her family as she pursued her career as a baton twirler (17:55), the level of commitment required to be a competitive baton twirler (20:20), and her training program and practice schedule as she strove to be one of the best baton twirlers in the world (25:30).
Monica also discusses the experiences of winning the first competition she ever competed in (28:18), competing with her brother Jason as a pair (30:55), representing the US at world championship events, including some of her most memorable moments (36:.50), and much more.
