Manage episode 407441328 series 3560266
🎙️Hello and welcome back to the I Wish I Never Said That podcast. Thank you for tuning in as we're joined by Raffela Mancuso who is a mental health and body inclusivity activist, content creator, and entrepreneur. She's here today to talk about a plus-size problem in society that has only gotten bigger and worse. We dive into how people communicate on the internet, the effects of social media on mental health, what body standards means for women, and much more.
👉 If this is your first time hearing about Raffela, then you're in for a treat. She started getting serious about Instagram in 2018 after she was turned away from mental health services at my university. That’s when she decided to start speaking up about her experiences so that others could feel less alone in their struggles and so more people could understand mental illness and body image issues in general. That all changed in 2020 when she made a post about thin privilege and how plus-size creators could say the same thing as a thin creator but they just get criticism and hatred and while their counterparts received love and praise. It accidentally went viral and she gained 20,000 followers overnight. Now Raffela uses her platform to help amplify others’ voices who also deserve to be heard, and talk about the uncomfortable things that people didn’t want to talk about, like fatphobia. You should follow her as she posts
