From capacity management to changing performance measures, discover what’s changing in the NHS, the impact on the NHS long-term plan and what all this means for the future of market access. Tom Clarke and David Thorne, from the Mtech Access NHS Insights & Interaction team, review some of the insights from our earlier series: ‘How is COVID-19 impacting the NHS?’, as well as exploring trends and challenges uncovered in conversation with our network of NHS Associates in our first 'Whispers Words of Wisdom' podcast.
Tom and David begin by reflecting on what has changed in the NHS over 2020 and how this has evolved over time. They explore how the NHS response to the pandemic has impacted long-term plan priorities, particularly in the light of the recently published Evidence Based Interventions Engagement document (from http://www.aomrc.org.uk/ebi/).

Tom and David also discuss cooperation, collaboration and capacity management both within the NHS and with the independent sector. They consider how quickly hospitals and primary care will be able to clear the backlog of patients and the measures that might be brought in to enable this.

Taking all of this into consideration, David and Tom discuss how the pharma and medtech industries can support the NHS at this time and how these changes may impact the future of market access. For example, they explore how changes to performance measures may affect future economic models and how economic evaluations could be made more relevant to local commissioning decisions.
This episode was originally broadcast on 31st July 2020 as a webinar.
