Born in Chicago in 1939, Mavis first achieved wide recognition as the lead singer of the Staple Singers, her family’s band. Her rich contralto voice and deep-seated sensuality give her a truly original sound. Her 14th release, "One True Vine," releases on June 25 and is her second collaboration with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, who produced and wrote songs for the album.
