Medical records have often been referred to as “the source of truth,” and they serve many purposes for veterinary practitioners and their patients. In a perfect world, medical records provide all the details about the patient’s history, clinical findings, diagnostic test results, pre- and postoperative care, prescribed medications, and the patient’s follow up care and progress. When done well, these records can be understood by other veterinary practitioners and will support the veterinarian’s treatment decisions. As a result, many veterinarians feel enormous pressure to produce quality medical records, while still delivering the utmost level of care for their patients and clients. This balancing act can lead to veterinarians staying at the clinic late or coming in on days off and weekends to write and update their patients’ records. Not surprisingly, medical recordkeeping contributes to a workload that is often overwhelming, which is one of the top causes of burnout among veterinarians. In this episode of VetFolio Voice, host Dr. Cassi explores a new medical recordkeeping solution — Scribenote — designed to improve a veterinarian’s work-life balance and provide better efficiency at the clinic. Tune in to hear how Dr. Katie Gallagher’s missed dinners and recordkeeping struggles led her brother Ryan Gallagher to create Scribenote.
