The Cleveland Cavaliers stay in Las Vegas will be shorter than desired. Cleveland got pounded by the undermanned Golden State Warriors, 96-85, in the latest game of this summer league tournament on Wednesday night. Reigning Vegas champions, the Cavs are just 1-2 and will not get a chance to defend their title, failing advance to the four-team playoff round this weekend. The Warriors, meanwhile, are one of five teams still undefeated. The top four seeds move on while the other 26 teams, including the Cavs, will play a fifth, mostly-meaningless consolation game on either July 20 or 21. The #Cavs are in Summer League play right now. They went down 7-0 in the first few minutes, as Golden State eventually built a double-digit lead behind a scorching shooting start, hitting its first six shots. The Warriors never trailed, increasing their point differential — an important potential tiebreaker — with a strong two-way performance. Cavs rookie Jaylon Tyson, the No. 20 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft who opened summer league with a pair of double-digit scoring efforts and is known for his lively personality, was silenced on Wednesday night. Tyson tallied just four points on 2 of 6 shooting and 0 of 2 from 3-point range in 24 minutes. Point guard Craig Porter Jr., one of the leaders of this year’s summer squad, finished with a team-high 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.
