In 2020, in one of our very early podcasts, we bought you a double episode on the Long Island Serial Killer.
In terms of a background in the case, the Long Island Serial Killings or the Gilgo Beach Killings were a series of murders between 1996 and 2011 in which the remains of up to 18 people were found in Gilgo Beach, on the South Shore of Long Island. Most of the known victims were sex workers who advertised on Craigslist.
On July 13, 2023, Rex Heuermann was arrested and charged with three of these murders. It is thought that more charges are to come. Rex was not on anybody’s radar in relation to this case. He was living a seemingly normal, suburban life in Massapequa Park, New York, living with his family and working as an architect.
Police have spent days searching Rex’s home and have been seen emerging with creepy dolls and pornography. It is also believed that Rex had a large vault in the basement of his home.
In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the arrest of Rex Heuermann and the Long Island Serial Killings.
