In 2 Kings 16 it says that when Ahaz was king he went to Damascus and saw an altar. He sent drawings of the altar back to Uriah the priest with instructions to build and place it in the temple next to the altar of God. Then it says in the 15th verse; He commanded Uriah the priest, “Use the large altar to burn the morning burnt offerings, the evening grain offerings, and the drink offerings from all the people of this country. Sprinkle all the blood from the burnt offering and other sacrifices on the large altar. But I will use the bronze altar to get answers from God.” That’s exactly how some of us handle our prayer lives. We give our time, offerings, our money, worship and everything else to the idols we serve until we need an answer. Then and only then do we begin to seek the true and living God. Only when we really need something do we truly begin to pray. There are far too many who feel that prayer is a chore and something that they don’t want to be bothered with until they really need something. Too many feel that it’s useless, futile and a waste of time. Because of these lies, (from flesh as well as the enemy), words and thoughts of discouragement when it comes to prayer, there are those who begin to believe that God doesn’t hear them. In actuality it’s not that God doesn’t hear them, but rather that He’s not answering. There are so many, who just like king Ahaz, have two altars; one for the offerings and the other for seeking God when they need an answer. There are those who see prayer as a task to either be avoided until absolutely necessary or for a matter that needs to be dealt with quickly. They deem prayer as a hurry up and get it over with issue. It's something that they can procrastinate with and never actually get to. They aren’t willing to take the time necessary to have real communication with the Father.
