For Jason, environmental sustainability is important. But more than that, personal sustainability is important--that is, finding work that lights your inner fire and makes you want to go out into the world and do good. He’s found that life at Rivian.

Since transitioning out of the oil and gas industry in 2017, native Texan Jason Cortes has turned to renewable and rechargeable energies. In between, he worked to help the community install and service clean energy solutions, and, ultimately, future-proof their businesses. He is now the RSM of the start-up Rivian, working on EVs and building the future himself.

On today’s episode of Thinking Green, Jason brings his oil and gas background to the conversation about renewable energies. He moved to the industry in order to chase his passion, and give meaning to his labors--which he’s done, as he has now spent five years making EV chargers publicly accessible. Tune in today to hear them jam about educating the public, current barriers to entry, and the future for many petroleum-based vehicle companies as they pledge to become all-electric.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How the new energy economy came to the petroleum industry, gas stations, and, in turn, Jason
  • How long the gas station model will continue to live before it is replaced with different technology,
  • Why some people are still hesitant to buy an EV
  • What attracted Jason to Rivian, and what he thinks about the future of EVs
  • And so much more!

Favorite Quote:

“We’re all in this together. We’re all moving in the same direction--forward.”
