Welcome to Wonderful World of Darklords! In this episode, we discuss Tom's favorite Disney movie of the neo-Renaissance, and possibly his favorite Disney movie of the entire 21st century. You're in his world now, not your world . . . but if the friends on the other side give you what you want and take what you have, rest assured that they're doing the same to Dr. Facilier, and with great gusto. Topics discussed include:

  • The horror of a domain that's essentially an MLM, complete with a darklord who projects success but has to hustle, hustle, hustle just to keep his head above water;
  • The joy of a setting based on a real-world city chockablock with weird and haunted history (and a cornerstone of the southern gothic to boot!);
  • Why, despite that "cornerstone of the southern gothic" thing, we didn't choose Gothic for one of our genres of horror, and how to incorporate the gothic if that's what you want;
  • So many Disney Easter eggs you'd swear we'd been to Disney World more than zero times;
  • and more!

Come on, darling. Think of all the episodes you've listened to, the hours you've sacrificed. Just click on the link. You're almost there . . .

The full writeup for Crescent City is available for free on DM's Guild: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/423934/Crescent-City-A-Ravenloft-Domain-of-Dread-02-13?affiliate_id=241770&fbclid=IwAR2PcUlAFrT41I_DR3upH5fkmHKQyFeqm67201iwokguz97jMUYPngooxKU Heads up: if you usually read or skim the writeup before listening to the episode, please listen to the episode first this time. There's a moment with D that's going to land better in audio format than on the page. What moment, you ask? The cards, the cards, the cards will tell . . .

The books we plugged are Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik and The Good House by Tananarive Due. Check them both out!
