My name is Corrine Hayford-Kwatchey, Owner & Founder of Kora Naturals.

I first had the idea for the business in 2010 after the birth of my first child. I was conscious about what I was using on her; wanting only the best, I determined to use only the best products in their most natural form. I have long championed the use of organic shea butter having seen the benefits throughout my life I knew thatpure & organic was the way I wanted to go with her.

This awareness also transcended towards myself; pregnancy and the aftermath made me more aware of the appearance of my skin and I started to look for products that not only addressed my skin issues but that were gentle, natural and non toxic.

I found it frustrating that the only natural option available were raw butters and oils which on their own are far too rich or petroleum based products that don’t offer any nutritional benefit to the skin or retain any moisture and contain fragrances composed of synthetic ingredients that are often chemically based.

Based on my own personal experience and through numerous conversations among my peers, I strongly felt that there is a need within the black community for a natural, everyday product that effectively meets the unique requirements of black skin but that also has a luxurious feel that is as unique, exotic and beautiful as the women that use it.

I began experimenting in my kitchen with adaptations of body butter recipes I found online! this then progressed to lip balms and body oils which I would give away to friends and family and sell at Christmas Fairs and markets.

After getting some constructive feedback, I decided that I wanted to develop my knowledge of the natural skincare business beyond kitchen cupboard recipes so I obtained a certificate in natural skincare formulation.

As I started to educate myself about ingredients, the biology of skin and the specific requirements of black skin; mainly that Black skin doesn’t retain as much water as other races and therefore has a tendency to be drier requiring a richer formulation that seals moisture in skin. Also, that pigmentation and scarring problems are also more likely in black skin.

I aspired to create products which effectively meet these needs. by using premium African botanicals and oils which have a natural affinity to black skin resulting in beautiful, nourished, radiant healthy skin.
