George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officers on May 25th, 2020. His death sparked nationwide protests demanding justice for Mr. Floyd and an end to police violence. The dominant discourse utilized by activists and demonstrators relied on a race reductionist, liberal antiracist framework. We should all be vehemently opposed to racism, prejudice, and discrimination, but the antiracist line is inadequate for understanding the root causes of our carceral crisis along with who is most likely targeted, killed, and incarcerated. In this episode, I utilize several works from scholars and researchers that help make sense of our current policing crisis and how we should respond to it. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thericeclub/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thericeclub/support
