Listen to the political dialogue that passes for news, and you will soon hear someone call for “responsive government.” The idea behind the well-worn phrase is simple. One of the virtues of republican government is its ability to respond to the needs and desires of the people who are, presumably, the source of its authority. Unfortunately, in the modern age, government is inclined to resist the people’s will. The overall pattern is for the politicians to leave real problems unsolved, because that posture helps them continue in their lofty positions. This podcast will deal with three manifestations of that tendency. First, it will look at the underlying problems between the "debt ceiling" debate in May. Then it discusses the roots of the student loan program's woes - and suggests a solution. Finally, we will examine the New York Governor's short-sighted decision to ban the continued use of natural gas.
