Newly appointed Children's Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce was brought up a Catholic and admits he has none of that 'burning Evangelical thing' and that his faith is just 'part of him.' The 65-year-old grew up near Liverpool and after studying English at Oxford went on to become a screenwriter starting out on the 1980's Channel 4 soap Brookside and going on to work with major British directors like Michael Winterbottom and Danny Boyle on films like 24 Hour Party People, A Cock and Bull Story as well as the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. His children's books don't shy away from using Christian imagery and his titles include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again, The Astounding Broccoli Boy and Millions which features plenty of saints. On today's Profile he talks to Catherine Larner about the 'grim' reality of writing, what it means to be Children's Laureate and why he doesn't feel he has to defend his faith. The Profile is brought to you by Premier Christianity Magazine, the UK’s leading Christian magazine. Through our publication, you’ll access thought-provoking Christian content, including the latest news, inspiring interviews, and exclusive commentary.
