Dr Anthony Idigbe talks about how in spite of the little expectation family and friends had of him, he went on to build a law firm with a global presence and shares some of the strategies he employed that have helped him successfully keep staff committed and sold out on the vision of the practice.

Dr Tony is the Senior Partner at PUNUKA Attorneys & Solicitors, a law firm based in Nigeria. He holds a doctorate in cross-border insolvency, is a Notary Public and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, with over 39 years of experience in corporate governance, insolvency, business restructuring, arbitration, dispute resolution, privatization, capital markets, mergers & acquisitions, and oil and gas.
He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Association of Nigerian Lawyers, chairs the Board of Trustees of Dominican University in Ibadan, Nigeria, and is a fellow of several organisations including the Institute of Directors Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN) and the International Bar Association (IBA).
An experienced corporate director knowledgeable in global capital market operations and business restructuring, Dr Tony chaired Capital Hotel in Nigeria from 2017 to 2022, and currently chairs Ikeja Hotel and The Tourist Company of Nigeria, all listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
He is the founder of the Capital Market Solicitors Association and as a consultant to the Bureau of Public Enterprises, co drafted the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Bill now an Act relating to anti-trust and competition law in Nigeria. His book, the Legal Issues in Capital Market Operation in Nigeria, 2nd edition, Distinct Universal Limited, Lagos, 2015 ISBN 978-33791-8-3, is a reference material for training and practice of corporate governance and capital market operations in Nigeria.
Dr Tony is an active facilitator for the Institute of Directors on members' training, drafted the institutes charter bill and was a member of the Institutes committee pursuing the promulgation of the law and in December 2022, he won the Institute Anofi Guobadia Award for Leadership and Excellence in directorship.
Now based in Canada, he runs the firm’s Canadian affiliate, PUNUKA Consulting Inc
