THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL:

Japanese researchers decided to investigate the ways in which musical notes can elicit specific bodily sensations and emotions. They asked 527 volunteers to map where they “felt” music while listening to 8 tunes. Participants were also asked about how the music made them feel emotionally. Here’s what the researchers found:

• Songs that were more surprising were felt in the heart, while predictable music was felt in the stomach.

• Sensations in the heart were strongly linked to musical appreciation and feelings of pleasure, which led to a decline in feelings of awkwardness and anxiety.

• Sensations in the stomach – brought on by predictable chord progressions – brought on feelings of calm, satisfaction and nostalgia.

Fun Facts

✓ Half of all bank robberies in the U.S. are done on a Friday.

✓ Red-haired men are most likely to go bald.

➠ The Masters Golf Tournament Just wrapped up. Did you know: Tiger Woods has won 5 green jackets. (Okay, TWO green jackets. Thanks, divorce…)

➠ Funeral arrangements are being made for OJ Simpson, who died last week at 76. (They were thinking of having Al Cowlings drive the hearse…but he drives too slow!)

➠ In an interview, Leonardo DiCaprio said he thinks of himself as an underdog. (Then he signed another $30 million movie contract, fell ass-backwards into a pile of supermodels, and flew away in his private jet…)

➠ Fact of the Day: Roughly 6 billion people on Earth own a phone, but only 4.5 billion have access to a working toilet. (“By working toilet”, I think they mean a NOKIA!)

➠ A study shows social media is responsible for making people ruder. (…or at least that’s what I read on Facebook this morning while tailgating some obnoxious a-hole who tried to cut me off!)

COFFEE QUESTIONS:

According to a survey of 2,000 coffee drinkers in the US…

⇒ Those who prefer cold brew and iced coffees are more likely to prefer sunny weather and binge-watch science-fiction shows.

⇒ Cold coffee lovers are also more likely to be introverted and travel more than those who prefer hot coffee. And are more likely to enjoy the music of artists like Megan Thee Stallion.

⇒ Hot coffee drinkers, then, are more likely to be extroverts. They are also more likely to prefer overcast weather, enjoy comedy shows, and to listen to artists like Taylor Swift.

⇒ Hot coffee drinkers are also more likely to be a baby boomer. In fact, 94% of people over the age of 56 prefer a hot mug of joe.

⇒ 42% of have tried to recreate their specialty coffee order at home.

⇒ Coffee drinkers would rather give up social media (22%), television (18%), alcohol (16%), and video games (4%) than coffee.

⇒ Whether it’s oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, hemp milk, or regular dairy, 1 in 4 coffee drinkers would rather go without their cup of joe altogether if their preferred whitener isn’t available.
