Manage episode 312060089 series 3219372
WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT:
Today, we start a new series within the Gospel Matthew, titled Dawn of An Era. We’re now leaving behind the Christmas story and are now diving into Jesus’ public ministry. Yes, that’s a 30-year jump, and obviously, you must be asking, “Gee, what did Jesus do during those 30 years?”
We will answer that question next week. (Suspense!)
Talk 2: Eat Locusts
The key message of Talk 2 is: Live an inspiring life.
The talk is titled Eat Locusts because eating locusts signified the simple, inspiring life of John the Baptist— as we read in the key Bible verses for this talk, Matthew 3:1-10 NLT, where Matthew describes the life of John the Baptist when he was preaching.
Verse 4 particularly describes how John looked and what he ate: 4 John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food, he ate locusts and wild honey.
The Greek word for “locusts” could mean the insects or the seeds of the Carob Tree. But it’s really possible that John the Baptist ate the seeds because according to Leviticus 11:22, Jews were allowed to eat them.
By living a simple life, John the Baptist inspired many as he started preaching about the coming of Jesus, the Messiah. When John called people to repentance, thousands did.
Before He started His ministry, Jesus also lived a simple life— as a carpenter— for 30 years. Thus, like John, He inspired many to live a godly life.
