The role of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in the arrest of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, one of the most powerful and elusive leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, was pivotal. Despite the controversy, U.S. officials have hailed the arrest as a significant blow to the Sinaloa Cartel, potentially disrupting its operations and sending a strong message about the U.S.'s commitment to combating transnational drug trafficking​.
