After graduating from college in 1999, Derek left home for what he expected to be a 3-month trip to Southeast Asia. Instead, he has been traveling the world non-stop since & has visited over 130 countries on 6 continents. He is the founder of the Wandering Earl.com travel blog & Wandering Earl Tours which offers a unique style of laid-back, small-group tours (that I highly recommend).

In this episode, Derek & I discuss:

    • His first few days in Bangkok during pre-internet times
    • His decision to travel indefinitely with just $1,500 to his name
    • His journey from college grad to founder of Wandering Earl Tours
    • His parents’ less than ideal reaction to his nomadic lifestyle
    • Why he never gave up
    • The travel lifestyle & his perspective on picture taking vs mine
    • Travel blogging before it was a “thing”
    • What he learned from his first Wandering Earl tour
    • My amazing Wandering Earl tour to Romania
    • His “it can be done” mentality
    • My husband’s Wandering Earl trip to Iraq with Derek earlier this year
    • The media’s version vs the truth

More adventures to come in Part 2!

In the meantime....
