When was the last time either of us were flogged with a lead-tipped whip, pricked with thorns, and spat on for healing the sick, raising the dead, and helping the lame walk, the deaf hear, and the blind see? I imagine that at some point in our lives, we have experienced suffering that we deemed unjust. In a world where the innocent suffer at the hands of sinners, it is easy to forget that we have been both victims and perpetrators. My own sins have caused innocent people to suffer, just as every human that has ever lived.
God, in His love, relinquished His immunity to pain and entered our world of flesh and blood, tears, and death. He suffered the ultimate death because he did the most good. That’s how wicked our world has become. And He still laid down his life In order to bring salvation to our souls, while also illustrating the depth of our fall from grace.
Regardless of the unjust suffering we may encounter, it is important to remember that none of us are as innocent as Jesus was. Nevertheless, His sacrifice comfort us in our own struggles and helps us make sense of our pain.
