Hello ladies, and welcome to The Career Woman’s Secret Playbook Podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Dawn, CEO/Founder of Dr. Dawn ShopTalk and you might remember that last week’s episode we talked about the fact that we would take a deeper dive on this VERY unhealthy pattern of perfectionism in THIS week’s episode – WHY? Because when we talked about how to uncover your grit and become unstoppable, perfectionism can stand in your way, which is the reason I have nicknamed perfectionism “grit’s toxic cousin!”
BUT, before we take a look at this issue, IF YOU’RE NEW here, WELCOME to our community of busy and amazing career women who are want to live their lives with more passion and purpose – If that sounds like you, then YOU are in the right place…
Now, let's get to today's episode! Keep in mind that there are times when “perfection” is necessary to establish standards, like in performance athletics such as diving and gymnastics. Unlike perfectionism, the pursuit of excellence is a whole other ball of wax. Excellence is an attitude, not an endgame.

In comparison to perfectionism, pursuing excellence is far more forgiving, allowing and embracing failure and vulnerability as part of the ongoing quest for improvement. It allows for disappointment and prioritizes progress over perfection, which is an important distinction.
Let’s start with a NEW definition of what it means to be “PERFECT”:

· Plan B – Always have a Plan B because good planning is always part of the process.

· Endure it – We have all been through it, right? Sometimes, you just have to ride it out.

· Realize the Opportunity – You may have heard it said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things around you change.” Use that same philosophy when you’re trying to combat perfectionism.

· Forgive Yourself – We are often harder on ourselves than we would be on ANYONE else.

· Extend an Apology, if Necessary – There is no shame in your game…apologize if you need to and MOVE on.

· Correct it – If a correction of some type is necessary, then go for it, but just don’t get stuck in that place.

· Try, Try Again – They say that “practice makes perfect,” but again, that is NOT what we are going for here.
For more about these strategies and more, tune in to today's episode!
