In Our Feelings: Relationships & Sexuality with Daryl Williams
Manage episode 313229876 series 3262990
The Absolute Ghetto is back with our first episode of 2021! 2020 was rough, so what better way to kick off this year with a Woke Wine Hour about a topic everyone loves to kiki about amongst their friends: relationships and sexuality! We believe that embracing the joys of romance, intimacy, and sexuality is one way to practice radical self love, especially as a Black person bearing the burden of marginalization and oppression 24/7. Black culture is even innovative regarding the ways we talk about sex and relationships (bae, talking, cuffed, entanglements, go together, spitting game, caking, etc.). But the vagueness of some of these terms represents how complicated and confusing the dating scene can be. Socialization also causes many to internalize “truths” about sexual “purity”, marriage, monogamy, etc, and it can be difficult to tell the difference between your true desires and what desires you’ve either internalized due to culture or even trauma. That’s impossible to unpack in one sitting, but we find just asking each other fun and challenging questions about relationships and sexuality (in general and individually), is a great way to explore these things and even unlearn habits and thought processes that no longer serve us on our journey to true freedom in intimacy. Of course, we frame some questions within the context of the global pandemic and how it may affect dating and/or sexual behavior. And we have a special guest, Daryl Williams, who has some unique perspectives about dating and recently had a TikTok about relationships go viral with over 8.5 million views, to help us do that! Feel free to sip and laugh with us! Also this episode was been recorded over Zoom and is on Youtube!!! link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqCChc6uk3Q
(SN: we apologize for the dimished quality of the audio, recording over Zoom instead of through mics caused the quality to go down a bit but it will be back up to par for episode 2.

The Absolutely Ghetto Org of the Week:
Every week, we highlight an organization, usually Black-founded, that’s relevant to the conversation.
Afrosexology- www.afrosexology.com: founded by two Black women: Rafaella and first generation Liberian American Dalychia. This thought movement posits that “Sexuality is a positive and important aspect of our personalities and lives. Our vision is that reclaiming and having agency over our bodies will transfer to other aspects of our lives and incite us to reclaim political, economic, and social agency. The white supremacy system in place throughout the diaspora is designed to alienate, control, and destroy Black bodies. Reclaiming our Black bodies & sexuality is in direct opposition to this system and an act of resistance.”
