3M Forever Chemicals: Science. Applied To Kill Us.
Manage episode 427805326 series 2996601
In 1997 3M chemist Kris Hansen was tasked with testing the blood of their employees for the presence of fluorochemicals, also known as forever chemicals. Hansen was told they weren’t toxic, but the company wanted to know how widespread they were in their employees. When testing control samples they came to the realization that these chemicals were in every person and animal in every country they obtained samples from. This week, we’ll discuss fluorochemicals and how they got in all of us, the possible health ramifications, and how comedian John Oliver led to Hansen coming forward with her story!
