Join Sudhanshu as he speaks to Navyug Gill, professor at William Paterson University, and a PhD in History from Emory where his research focused on labor and agrarian studies, caste politics, global capitalism and subaltern studies. He’s written extensively on Punjab, agriculture, caste and economy of cultivation.
The interview discuss a topic that has been on almost every news channel, feed and a talking point in India and outside of India: the farmer’s protest occurring in North India. Now, a lot has been said about the bills, about the supposed agrarian economy, the impact on the current Mandi system, the politicization of the protests, the media response as well as the the creative ways farmers are showcasing their ability to protests the bills that were hastily passed in September of this year. Yet, not much has been said of what I believe is the crux of this movement: the mobilization of unions behind this protest. At the later end of the show, we focus on the relationship of the diaspora and the protests.
Swadeshi/Videshi is an exploration of India's political, socio-economic, and historical past and present through an insider and outsider's perspective with host Sudhanshu Kaushik as he dissects the complexities of current events occurring for young Indians and diaspora members to digest with interviews of experts while also having conversations with young Indians to gauge what India is to young Indians all over the world.
