Welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, and today is October 18th.

Now, let’s talk about today’s holiday: it’s Ride to Work Day! Whether you’re cruising on a bicycle, revving up a motorcycle, or just coasting down the street on an electric scooter, Ride to Work Day is all about swapping out your usual commute for something a little more fun—and eco-friendly. It’s a perfect excuse to get some fresh air, save on gas, and avoid those awkward conversations with your fellow passengers on the subway.

Which brings me to today’s quote. It’s from John F. Kennedy, and he once said:

"Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride."

Now, I don’t know if JFK was thinking about Ride to Work Day when he said that, but it fits perfectly. There’s something almost magical about the simplicity of riding a bike. The wind in your face, the rhythmic spinning of the wheels, the complete freedom of controlling your pace. Plus, no traffic jams. Just you, your wheels, and maybe a couple of squirrels running across the street.

Kennedy’s quote reminds us that joy often comes from the little things—the uncomplicated pleasures we sometimes overlook. And riding to work, or anywhere really, taps into that same sense of childlike freedom. It’s a reminder that not everything has to be about efficiency or productivity. Sometimes, it’s okay to slow down and enjoy the ride—literally.

So, whether you’re already biking to work, or today’s the day you’ll give it a try, take a moment to enjoy that simplicity. You’ll probably get where you’re going faster than you expect. And even if you don’t, at least you won’t be stuck behind the guy who always cuts you off at the stoplight.

Well, that’s it for today. I hope you find a little extra pleasure in your commute, however you make it. Thanks for joining me on The Daily Quote. I’m Andrew McGivern, reminding you to slow down, enjoy the ride, and always keep moving forward—even if it’s on two wheels.

Have a great day!
