Gloria Laycock - Thought Leadership Interview
Manage episode 421744216 series 3572864
Professor Gloria Laycock is one of the world’s leading scholars on crime prevention. A trained psychologist who has worked extensively in the prison service, Government policy and research and then in academia as a Professor of Crime Science at the Jill Dando Institute. Outspoken, direct and popular, with a keen commitment to ensuring that the findings of academic research are used to influence practice, and to improve the prevention of crime.
In this interview you will hear her views and experiences on what it was like to speak up, the problems faced by working as a woman in a male-dominated world; the successes and failures of crime prevention; the challenge for academics in helping those on the front line, in applying science to practice (and her new book; Crime, Science and Policing); and thinking about the victim. You will also learn which book most influenced Gloria, which person most influenced her, and what change would most improve crime prevention.
