On a scale of 1 to 10, how afraid are you of niching down in writing? While this seems to be a common fear amongst most writers, there is a competitive advantage about having a niche market regardless of how small your audience is. After all, they say the riches are in the niches!

Today on the show, Lauren welcomes Director of Editorial & Acquisitions at the independent publishing house Ulysses Press, Casie Vogel. Casie is an avid fiction reader and author of The Hard Seltzer Cocktail Book. She has been working with Ulysses Press for the last 7 years and is here today to talk about her passion for helping book authors get their books out into the world and the role of small presses in amplifying marginalized, silenced voices within the publishing world.

This is a very educational and informative episode where Casie and Lauren discuss the benefits of niching down and how it allows you to know exactly who you're targeting as well as tailor every part of your book.

If you're wondering what it means to be an indie press and how that fits into the landscape of publishing, keep listening and learn more about the process of submitting your book idea to Ulysses Press, how distribution works for small publishing houses, and even listen to some examples of unsolicited projects Casie has worked on and how her team helps authors get their book ready to be published without the need of a literary agent.
