Top Bounce Back Candidates of the 2023/24 Season | Rink Rat Report Podcast | August 19, 2023
Manage episode 374711022 series 3112889
Welcome to an exciting episode of the Rink Rat Report podcast! In this episode we take a look at the top players from the Leafs and around the NHL to have a bounce back season. To define what a bounce back candidate would look like: it's a player that has struggled this past season (or additional seasons before) relative to their expectation or previous production. A good example of a player that had a big bounce back year in the 2022/23 season would be Jamie Benn. From the 2010/11 season to the 2017/18 season Jamie Benn averaged 0.95 points per game. However, from the 2018/19 season to the 2021/22 season Benn's production faltered and he was only averaging 0.62 points per game, including just 46 points in 82 games in 2021/22.
Using statistics and gut checks we identified players on the Leafs as well as around the league who would be likely to get back to their original point production or even exceed this!
In this episode we also remember both Rodion Amirov and Bob Baun.
Rodion Amirov passed away at just the age of 21 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour 2 years prior. He was selected 15th overall by the Leafs in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Bob Baun passed away at the age of 86. Baun played 739 games with the Maple Leafs and helped lead them to 4 Stanley Cups. He is most famous for scoring the Game 6 Overtime winning goal during the 1964 Stanley Cup finals.
