What Is Keyword Research?
Keywords are the words you type into a search engine box. Keyword research helps you select accurate keywords that attract the right website visitors.
Keywords and keyword research are the foundations for everything you do on the internet.
Follow these seven easy steps to keyword research.
Step 1: Make a Seed List.
Write down keywords from:
•Existing brochures.
•Successful websites.
•Potential customer online inquiries.
Step 2. Determine the “Intent” for Each Webpage.
You should select intent keywords that match what your specific webpage’s intent. Intent keywords include: buy, donate, click here, and subscribe, and appropriate"intent" word for a specific page.
Step 3. Research Long Tail Keywords.
Select accurate keywords that contain 3 or 4 words.
Step 4. Research One Month of Traffic Volume.
Use free or paid research tools that collect one month of traffic data for your initial list of long tail keywords.
Step 5. Research One Year of Traffic Volume.
Use free or paid keyword research tools to determine if the long term keywords on your list have seasonal website traffic. If so, you might want to offset this with other products or services.
Step 6. Research Your True Competition.
Use keyword data and your common sense to make decisions. The data might indicate low competition. But in reality, you know the competition is very strong because it might be the domain name of a trusted and established website.
Step 7. Expand Your Keyword List.
For a well-rounded list, write down related words (synonyms, appropriate head, and body keywords, and other such related words).
Now, repeat the steps again until you have an initial pool of the best keywords for your website.
When you feel you have enough keywords (50 to 100 keywords), then sort the keywords to the specific webpage. Make sure each keyword has the same intent as--the specific webpage. This step will show you if some pages have enough keywords, and if other pages need more keywords.
You can search keywords in small batches to keep from feeling overwhelmed.
The larger your pool of keywords, the easier it will to be for you to create highly optimized webpages, blog articles, landing pages, ads and more. Don't give up. Keywords and keyword research are important. They are the foundations for everything you do on the internet.
Take Action!
Thank you.
