Grammy-nominated K.Flay is a songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. Her music is a unique, bold, and thoughtful blend of hip-hop, indie rock and electronica. Inspired by artists ranging from Missy Eilliott to Garbage to Liz Phair, her sound is tough to pin down.

This week, we pick K.Flay’s brain on her unlikely musical story, her creative process, her recent and sudden hearing loss, her favorite songs and movies, and even her abstention from alcohol.

This week’s mocktail – THE OTOLARYNGOLOGIST

1 oz strong rooibos tea, chilled

1 oz cream soda

½ oz vanilla rooibos syrup (I used Portland Syrup— but it's fun to experiment with other brands and flavors)

4 dashes of Dram Palo Santo bitters

Shake all ingredients over ice, then strain into a chilled glass and garnish with flowers or a vanilla stick.
