War is one of the facts of human history and for many people one of the facts of their own lives. For one philosopher it is an evil to be eliminated, for another the hard school of life. Those who go through it would know what is important in life.
We were allowed to talk to Daniel Trusilo, an Iraq war veteran, about his training, his war experience and his return to civilian life. The reality behind such metaphors as that of war as a school of life once again proves to be much more complicated than the metaphor is able to grasp. Nonetheless, the soldier's life naturally runs around themes of wisdom. How to deal with the death of friends? How to deal with the possibility of one's own death? How do I take responsibility for the lives of those around me?

Krieg gehört zu den Fakten der menschlichen Geschichte und für viele Menschen zu den Fakten des eigenen Lebens. Für die eine Philosophin ist er ein zu beseitigendes Übel, für die andere die harte Schule des Lebens. Wer sie durchläuft, der wisse, worauf es im Leben ankommt.
Wir durften mit Daniel Trusilo, einem Irakkriegsveteran, über seine Ausbilung, seine Kriegserfahrung und seine Rückkehr in das zivile Leben sprechen. Die Realität hinter solchen Metaphern wie derjenigen vom Krieg als Schule des Lebens zeigt sich wieder einmal als viel komplizierter als die Metapher es zu fassen vermag. Nichtsdestotrotz verläuft das Soldatenleben natürlich um Weisheitsthemen herum. Wie umgehen mit dem Tod von Freunden? Wie mit der Möglichkeit des eigenen Todes? Wie übernehme ich Verantwortung für das Leben meiner Mitmenschen?
